Over Christmas, Crisis becomes the biggest volunteering operation in the country, providing immediate help for homeless people at this critical time of year. In 2016, Crisis helped nearly 4,000 guests across their 10 cen with the help of 11,000 volunteers.
It’s estimated that 4,134 people were sleeping rough on a single night in Autumn 2016 in England. Crisis is the national charity for homeless people - that helps people to leave homelessness behind for good, through education, training and support.
Shelters across England are open from 23rd to 30th December, providing services such as healthcare, advice on benefits and employment, hairdressing, accommodation, entertainment and food for those that need it over the holidays.
Crisis are only able to do this thanks to the support of individuals and businesses. Volunteers sign up in their thousands to provide services or lend an ear to those that need it. Donations are also key for Crisis, not only in the form of money, but in terms of skills and items as well.
First Mile are proud to support Crisis at Christmas for the 5th year in a row by providing them with free recycling and waste collections from all their London Shelters.
