The shortlisting recognised the fact that in 2017, with councils averaging 47% recycling, First Mile customers smashed the Mayor’s 65% recycling target for London, 12 years ahead of schedule.
It also recognised the continued customer growth (25% year on year for the last 6 years), and a number of further sustainability initiatives made by First Mile including;
- The roll-out of electric vehicles for special collections, and even bicycle deliveries.
- The opening of the UK’s first pre-sort sack sorting facility, the “Sacktory®” which massively helped reduce contamination and prevented 376,000 KG’s of CO2 emissions in its first nine months.
- The launch of new recycling services for our customers for flexible (single-use) plastics, and coffee cups.
- The launch of a new web and mobile app, allowing customers to order and manage recycling and waste services online or on their phone, from anywhere in the world.
