Why set up a Fluorescent Tube Recycling collection with First Mile?
Dispose of Fluorescent Tube
Spent fluorescent tubes yield high value when treated well during the disposal process, but kick up quite a fuss in the wrong hands. That’s because they are classified as hazardous waste due to their mercury content. In fact, the mercury from one tube can pollute 30,000 litres of water beyond safe UK drinking levels – so fluorescent tube disposal must be done correctly and efficiently.
On a positive note, 95% of the materials from the fluorescent tubes and bulbs are recyclable. So why not, right?
Recycle Fluorescent Tubes with First Mile
We want to make fluorescent tube recycling easy. That’s why we offer flexible collections, up to 3 times a day, 7 days a week. Plus, there’s 24/7 support available 365 days per year, so you can stay on top of your fluorescent bulb disposal, no matter what.
All you need to do to start to recycle fluorescent tubes is pack up your used items into our handy packaging. You can include fluorescent tubes, bulbs, filament, lighting, sterilisation or sunbed tubes and detecting and tracing tubes. The only thing we say no to is batteries, wires and cables.
That's it: our fluorescent recycling team will do the rest. They’ll pick up your old fluorescent tubes for recycling from inside your business and safely take them to our depot, where they will be organised and stored until the time comes for them to be transported to a dedicated facility. They will then be delivered to a specialist fluorescent recycling centre where your bulbs and tubes can be transformed into something useful - like new light bulbs!

What makes First Mile different from other waste management services in Westminster?
What makes First Mile different from other waste management services in Westminster?
At First Mile, we don’t just manage your waste professionally and securely - we're also committed to a zero-to-landfill approach. That means that we will recycle and reuse as much of your waste as possible.
Anything that can’t be recycled or reused will then be taken to a waste-to-energy facility, where it will be incinerated in a process that generates electricity and heat which is used to power homes. Any remains that can't be burnt are salvaged to become building materials, so it's all put to good use rather than going to landfill.
